Jujutsu Kaisen: Complete Review — The New King of Shonen?
Jujutsu Kaisen by Gege Akutami has exploded in popularity since its serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2018. But does the series deserve all the hype? In this complete review, we analyze every aspect.
Premise
Yuji Itadori, a high school student with superhuman athletic abilities, swallows a cursed finger of the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna, becoming his host. From there, he is recruited by Tokyo Jujutsu High to fight curses.
Strengths
Power System
The Cursed Energy system is one of the best-constructed in modern shonen. Each technique has clear rules, limitations, and costs, creating strategic and unpredictable battles.
Characters
Gojo Satoru became a cultural phenomenon, but the cast goes far beyond him. Megumi, Nobara, Todo, and Nanami are characters with depth and clear motivations.
Animation (Studio MAPPA)
The anime adaptation by Studio MAPPA is spectacular. The fight scenes, especially in the Shibuya arc, are among the best ever produced in anime.
Weaknesses
Pacing
The manga suffers from pacing issues in some arcs, especially in the Culling Game, where the number of characters and rules can overwhelm the reader.
Secondary Character Development
Some promising characters receive less development than they deserve.
Verdict
Rating: 8.5/10
Jujutsu Kaisen deserves its place among the greats of modern shonen. It's not perfect, but its combination of visceral action, intelligent power system, and charismatic characters makes it essential for any genre fan.
